Keeping in touch with youngsters during the Summer holidays is just as important as working with them in schools and colleges throughout the year.
In the last few weeks, your Neighbourhood Youth Officers (NYOs) have spent a number of hours out in the community; engaging with young people, checking in on how they're doing, visiting popular meeting spots and patrolling open spaces where teens like to meet up and socialise.
Areas include, Shinewater Park, Gildredge Park, Hampden Park, Sovereign Skate Park, the Devonshire Park area and along the seafront.
These patrols provide an opportunity not only to catch up with familiar faces and offer advice and support, but also to intervene or signpost young people to local activities and services, and identify any concerns at an early stage.
By maintaining this visible presence during the Summer holidays, we can continue supporting the youngsters our NYOs work with during term time, strengthening relationships and ensuring the engagement and trust built during term time continues beyond the classroom.

Day of action targets local concerns
In response to an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour across the town, officers conducted a dedicated day of action to address local concerns and disrupt those involved in anti-social behaviour (ASB) and other criminality.
During the operation, teams carried out proactive patrols, searches and targeted activities in the town centre, resulting in the arrest of four wanted persons as well as a further individual for breaching bail conditions.
Officers also continued to tackle those responsible for persistent anti-social behaviour, issuing two further Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs). Any further offences or breaches of these notices may result in arrest.
In addition, a number of stop searches were conducted following recent shoplifting reports, with offences identified; as well as an e-bike linked to anti-social behaviour in the town centre being seized.
These days of action are in addition to regular patrols and enforcement activity across the town centre, and officers will continue high-visibility patrols throughout the summer to address local concerns, prevent crime and help keep the community safe.
