PD Ava's first 'arrest' for motorbike thefts
You may remember the arrest of two suspected motorcycle thieves in Eastbourne last month following a police pursuit involving local policing teams, operational support units and the National Police Air Service (NPAS).
We'd like to introduce Police Dog (PD) Ava, who played her part in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion; a big well done to Ava, who quickly located both men after they fled into nearby woodland, along with items believed to have been used in the commission of offences that night in June.
Her efforts helped officers secure the arrests and recover key evidence, and marked her first successful detention since qualifying as a licensed police dog in April. Motorcycle theft remains a priority for officers across Eastbourne. We know the impact these crimes have on victims and continue to take proactive action through targeted patrols, intelligence-led policing, stop checks leading to further arrests this month, and ongoing CCTV enquiries and investigations to help recover stolen vehicles and bring offenders to justice.
Police continue to encourage motorcycle owners to review their security measures and report suspicious activity when it happens.
Always call 999 in an emergency or if a crime is in progress, or contact us via 101 (non-emergency) or online.
