Friday 6th March 2026 Sussex Alerts - Eastbourne Police Dear Residents, Please find below the latest Sussex Alerts from Eastbourne Police. Op to tackle unsafe delivery riding and illegal bikes Following complaints from members of public about driving behaviours in the town resulting from delivery riders’, including concerns around excessive speed and unsafe riding; your local policing teams carried out a targeted operation this weekend to address issues such as illegal bikes and e scooters, anti-social and poor driving standards.
Throughout the evening, officers carried out a large number of stop checks speaking to riders and drivers - strong words of advice and warnings were given to many individuals around responsible riding, unsafe behaviours and the manner of their riding.
In addition to extensive driver engagements, the operation also resulted in the seizure of an illegal bike being used in the town, and the arrest of a drink driver who blew 71 on a roadside test, more than double the legal limit.
We will continue to carry out similar proactive stops, checks, and enforcement activity in response to community concerns in the coming months, and we continue to encourage residents to report incidents online here so we can take appropriate and timely action.
Police and fire partnership working to keep young people safe
Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue have been visiting local schools this week to deliver joint assemblies, warning young people about the dangers and consequences of entering abandoned buildings.
Not only is trespassing illegal, but those entering with the intention of causing damage or stealing can face far more serious charges, such as burglary.
Abandoned buildings are extremely unsafe, with risks including collapsing floors or staircases, broken glass, sharp metal, hazardous materials, exposed wiring, weak roofs, and the risk of becoming trapped - these dangers can put both young people and the wider community at risk.
Individuals who enter abandoned buildings also put emergency services at risk, with responding officers and firefighters facing the same dangers, meaning one unsafe decision can endanger multiple people.
Parents and carers are encouraged to:
• Talk to youngsters in their care about the dangers of exploring derelict sites • Know where children are spending time after school and at weekends • Report dangerous, unsecured buildings to the local authority
Male arrested by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) has arrested a man in connection with a terrorism offence in Eastbourne on Friday (6 March).
A 35-year-old man from the town was arrested on suspicion of expressing an opinion in support of a proscribed organisation (Daesh), contrary to section 12 (1A) of the Terrorism Act 2000, and is currently in police custody.
The operation was led by CTPSE officers, with support from Sussex Police. The arrest is in connection with an Islamist Terrorism investigation related to posts made on social media platforms. A search of a property in the town is ongoing.
Chief Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw, of Sussex Police, said: “I appreciate arrests of this nature can cause people in the local community to feel unsettled, however Sussex Police has been working closely to support our colleagues in Counter Terrorism Policing South East as part of this pre-planned operation.
"There is not believed to be any immediate risk to those in the community but I would urge anyone who has any concerns to contact police.”
