Friday 17th October 2025 Sussex Alerts - Lewes and Seahaven Police National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2025 As part of a National campaign of awareness around hate crime this week, local officers from your Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Team have been holding awareness raising sessions across the district. During the week officers visited Webb House Care Home in Newhaven to meet with residents.
The morning, which was aimed at raising awareness of hate crime within communities living with various disabilities, was also an opportunity for officers to offer support and detail reporting avenues for those affected.
A huge thank you to residents and staff for having us along this morning, it was lovely to see you all; you know where we are if you need us! Elsewhere, officers also joined youngsters at The JOFF Youth Hub in Peacehaven where a number of meaningful conversations were had with attendees on their LGBTQAI+ drop in session.
Our message this week; there is no place for hate in Sussex!
Hate crime is someone being targeted due to their disability, race, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity or any perceived difference.
Hate crime will never be tolerated. This week is Hate Crime Awareness Week, and we are working with partners across the county to raise awareness, talk about what a hate crime is, the impact it has on victims and the wider community and how to report.
If you’re a victim or witness a hate crime, please tell us about it. You will be believed and supported.
You can report, online or by calling 101 .
In an emergency always call 999. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ October half-term event Newhaven

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Safety In Action 2025
The project, which is coordinated by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, along with other emergency services and partner agencies, aims to help encourage children to recognise hazards and take action to keep themselves and others safe.
Held at a number of locations last week, including here at Plumpton Racecourse from Monday 6th to Thursday 9th October, the event saw over 700 youngsters aged around 10-11 years old take part in awareness raising activities and scenarios around different elements of safety including: fire, rail, personal (stranger danger), water, electrical, alcohol, and road safety as well as First Aid.
Well done to everyone involved, it is amazing to see so many youngsters coming together from all different schools and locations across the district to take part.
As always our extended thanks to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, and to Seaford Rotary for putting together this invaluble week of action.
*Pictured below are some of the organisations and volunteers who helped run the scenarios including students from the ESCG Lewes Campus Uniformed Public Services course, with permissions given to share images to social media.
