![]() Supporting Young People Through Safety Education Local Neighbourhood Youth Officers took part in this year’s Safety in Action week, hosted by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. This important event is designed to help Year 6 students from across Hastings and Rother learn how to recognise and respond to a range of everyday risks in a safe and informed way. Through a series of interactive and engaging sessions, students explored key topics including water safety, road safety, alcohol awareness, personal safety, and basic first aid. These practical lessons are vital in helping young people build confidence, make safe choices, and look out for themselves and others as they move into secondary school and beyond. Events like this are a great example of how we can work together with partners to make a positive impact. A big thank you to all the children who took part, and to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service for hosting such a valuable initiative.

Protecting Our Community from Cuckooing Cuckooing is a serious crime where organised crime groups, gangs, or drug dealers exploit vulnerable people by taking over their homes to deal drugs or carry out other criminal activities. Operating from a property, rather than the street, allows these criminals to stay hidden. Drugs, may also be stored at the address. Victims are often coerced into allowing this through offers of ‘free’ drugs, food, or threats of violence. This week, in Hastings we have been out in the community, identifying and supporting those at risk. We’ve been using local intelligence to visit vulnerable individuals, raise awareness, and provide advice on how to get help. We’re committed to protecting those most at risk and tackling drug-related crime. If you notice unusual activity at a neighbour’s property, such as frequent visitors at odd hours or signs of distress, please report it. You can contact us on 101 or online at www.sussex.police.uk Alternatively, you can report anonymously at CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 Your information could help safeguard someone in need.

Following concerns raised by local residents about speeding on The Ridge in Hastings, officers from Sussex Police joined forces with Community Speed Watch (CSW) to monitor vehicle speeds in the area. During the session, over 30 drivers were recorded exceeding the 30mph speed limit, travelling between 36 and 40mph. Alarmingly, one driver admitted to being unaware of the speed limit in a built-up area. Our work with CSW is focused on education and prevention. Speeding is not just a traffic offence, it’s a serious risk to life. Excessive speed increases the likelihood and severity of collisions, often resulting in life-changing injuries or fatalities. We are committed to supporting communities in making their roads safer for everyone. If you’re passionate about road safety and would like to join or set up a Community Speed Watch group in your area, please visit Community Speedwatch Online. Full training and ongoing support are provided by Sussex Police. Please note: Together, we can make a difference. Thank you to all residents and CSW volunteers for your continued support in keeping our roads safe.
