Today, we conducted a road safety initiative along the A21, focusing on driver education and vehicle compliance at Johns Cross. ![]() In a collaborative effort, Rother Neighbourhood Officers partnered with the Roads Policing Unit to deliver crucial safety messages to motorists.
One significant intervention involved a scaffolding lorry that exceeded its permitted weight limit by one tonne. This situation perfectly illustrates why vehicle weight restrictions are crucial for road safety: • Overloaded vehicles require longer stopping distances
The driver received a £300 fine and comprehensive guidance about the dangers of exceeding vehicle weight limits. For safety reasons, the excess load was removed, requiring the driver to make a separate journey to collect it—a practical lesson in the importance of proper load management.
Throughout the operation, we spoke with numerous motorists, emphasising that road safety is a shared responsibility. This educational initiative reinforces our ongoing commitment to road safety through prevention, education, and when necessary, enforcement.
![]() We really enjoyed our visit to the Hastings & Rother Voluntary Association for the Blind at the Taplin Centre in Hastings on 12th February. We had enlightening talks with those attending about their visual impairments, seeking to better understand how we can provide support and enhance their sense of security within the community. The session provided a valuable opportunity for attendees to raise questions about local policing and our commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals, including our work with partner agencies.
Yesterday, as part of our ongoing effort to address road safety concerns, we conducted a safety initiative following a recent collision and injury report on Gunters Lane.
Rother Neighbourhood Officers collaborated with the Police Casualty Reduction Team, Community Speed Watch and East Sussex County Council to resolve parking issues during peak times and prevent road casualties.
We explored options for improving crossing positions and increasing parking availability, while maintaining our focus on road safety.
Road safety remains a shared responsibility. This joint initiative demonstrates our continued commitment to improving safety through engineering, education and, when necessary, enforcement.

![]() Last week, whilst conducting our evening foot patrol in Bexhill, we collaborated with Rail Enforcement, Revenue Protection and Travel Safe Officers from Southern Rail and GTR.
This joint operation demonstrated our unified approach to ensuring the safety of both rail passengers and visitors to the station and surrounding areas. Our collective presence served to address anti-social behaviour near the station and prevent individuals from other areas travelling to Bexhill with criminal intent.
During our patrol, we engaged with arriving and departing passengers, gaining valuable insights into their experiences and any challenges they face when in Bexhill. These direct discussions with our community help us better understand their concerns and how we can best deploy resources.
Our commitment, alongside our partner agencies, to tackle anti-social behaviour and criminal activity in Rother remains unwavering. We will continue working to ensure that everyone—whether residing, shopping, or working in Bexhill—feels secure in the knowledge that we are actively addressing these issues.
Five individuals were taken into custody last night following a robbery in Bexhill. The incident took place close to the Bexhill Leisure Centre. Whilst our investigation is ongoing, we are appealing for witnesses who may have information or CCTV footage relating to this incident or any other recent occurrences in the area. Extensive high-visibility patrols will continue throughout both daytime and evening hours in and around Bexhill to ensure our community's safety. ![]() As a Police Community Support Officer, a fundamental aspect of my role involves maintaining strong communications within our community. Recently, I attended a coffee morning in Northiam, which regularly brings together the more mature resident for tea, coffee, and refreshments.
These gatherings provide an invaluable opportunity to speak with the local people in a relaxed setting. Residents can voice their concerns, report matters requiring police attention, and receive updates about current issues, including the latest scams and prevention strategies. One big plus is meeting up with residents that we have known for many years like Pat (once the lolly pop lady) from being a constant presence in the village. The morning proved both productive and enjoyable, complete with great tea, great chat, and superb walnut cake.
![]() Conducting regular patrols throughout the village of Camber and the beach on Wednesday. With the arrival of spring, it was pleasant to walk without battling against the usual windy weather.
![]() You Said- We Did- Fatal5 It has been proven that speeding is one of the main factors of fatal road collisions. I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone that the faster you drive the longer the braking distance and the quicker you reaction has to be to avoid an incident. The difference of a few miles per hour can mean the difference between life and death. Speeding restrictions are there for a reason, please stick to them.
Whilst conducting foot patrols along Burwash High Street this Saturday, I took the opportunity to chat with the local community about any issues or concerns they might have regarding the village.
It was a glorious day, and I couldn't resist pausing for a photograph beside the statue of the renowned author Rudyard Kipling, whose former residence, Bateman's, stands as one of the village's landmarks and remains a testament to our rich literary heritage.
