Appeal after collision outside Haywards Heath hospitalDid you witness a collision outside the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath? On December 12 at around 2.50pm, a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a blue Honda Civic at the Princess Royal Hospital roundabout. The pedestrian, an 80-year-old man from Haywards Heath, sustained a serious injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. We are undertaking enquiries to establish the circumstances around the collision, and are appealing for witnesses. Appeal after serious collision in Haywards Heath car parkOfficers investigating a collision in Haywards Heath are appealing for further witnesses and information. The incident happened in Clair Hall car park at about 6.15am on Tuesday, November 19 last year. It involved a car, believed to be a Hyundai Tucson in red or maroon, and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 55-year-old local man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, and has since been discharged. The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene. Police are investigating, and are appealing for any further information. Anyone with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage in the area at the time who has not already shared this with police is asked to come forward. Appeal after arson at gym in Burgess HillPolice are appealing for witnesses and information after a fire at a gym premises in Burgess Hill. Emergency services were called to PureGym in London Road at about 3.20am on Christmas Eve, December 24. The fire service tackled the fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately. The cause of the fire is being treated as arson. Officers have appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward. In particular they wish to trace anyone with relevant CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage from the area from 3am to 3.30am. CCTV appeal after luggage stolen from GatwickPolice investigating a report of stolen luggage have released images of a man they wish to speak with. Officers were alerted about the theft of baggage from the check-in area A in the South Terminal at London Gatwick. It happened on December 12 between 11.35 and 11.50am. A family were due to fly on a long haul flight from the airport. Their baggage contained items including Apple electronic gadgets and laptops, house keys, a wallet containing bank cards, Sony headphones, and scuba diving equipment including snorkels and a wetsuit. It is believed that the thief boarded a bus to Crawley and later attempted to use the stolen bank cards in the Langley Green area. Officers have carried out enquiries, and are releasing CCTV images of a man they wish to speak with in connection with the theft. The man is described as being aged in his 30s with a beard, wearing a dark blue jacket, blue jeans, black trainers, and a dark or brown coloured baseball cap. Inspector Mark Robinson said: “We are investigating a report of theft of luggage from the terminal area at London Gatwick while the victim was distracted. “This was distressing for the victim, who was with his young family at the time and seeking to embark on a holiday ahead of a busy festive period. “We are issuing CCTV images of a man we wish to speak with in connection with our enquiries, anyone who can identify him is asked to come forward.” Information can be reported to Sussex Police online by quoting serial 1097 of 12/12. East Grinstead murder suspect released on bailA woman arrested in connection with the murder of a man in East Grinstead has been bailed. Police responded to a report of a domestic incident at the address in Paddock Gardens around 7.45pm on Thursday 19 December. A 61-year-old man was treated by paramedics but was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and continue to be supported by specialist officers. A 69-year-old woman from East Grinstead, who was known to him, was arrested on suspicion of murder. On Sunday 22 December, she was released from custody on conditional bail, as police enquiries continue. Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Jon Gillings, said: “This remains an active investigation, and our officers are working around the clock to establish the exact circumstances of the victim’s tragic death. “In the meantime, I would urge the public to refrain from speculating, but instead to come forward and make contact with us should they have any information that can assist in our investigation.” You can report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Bilbrook.
Rise in drink and drug drivers arrested in Christmas campaign
Officers across Sussex made 270 arrests during the annual winter campaign to tackle drink and drug driving. Operation Limit is a national campaign supported by Sussex Police, running from December 1 to January 1. Drink and drug driving is one of the “fatal five” causes of people being killed or seriously injured on our roads. Despite the warnings, officers continued to find drivers putting themselves in danger, including one drug driver who stopped to ask police for directions in Crawley, and a drink driver who pulled in to a pub car park near Bexhill while already more than three times the legal limit, and drivers found with drugs or alcohol being consumed in vehicles by drivers on the road. Chief Constable Jo Shiner, National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for Roads Policing, said: “The increase in arrests and the rise in drug-driving is shocking. Read more here
