We continue to encourage reports if you see or hear something that we need to know about.

Help us help you. You can phone 101 or report online through our website 24/7.

If there is an emergency, or a crime is in action, please call 999.

Theft of tools from vans

We are still investigating the series of theft across Wealden.

Tools and other items have been stolen from parked vehicles, specifically vans, overnight over the last few weeks. The thefts have taken place in the Hailsham, Hellingly, Heathfield and Maresfield areas.

We urge the public to take the following steps:

- Park your vehicle in a well lit area, and ensure it is locked.

- Remove any tools or valuable items and store them safely inside overnight.

- Marking your tools with your name. This can make the items less desirable as they will be easily identifiable and harder to sell on.

Please get in touch if you see or hear of anything suspicious.

Call us on 101, quoting Operation Kansas.

Hate Crime Awareness Week

Our focus during hate crime awareness week has not only been highlighting the types of hate crime and the effects such crimes have on individuals, but also showcasing how and where all victims can find support and advice, whether it be speaking to us, partner agencies or local charities.

Our hate crime lead Trainee Superintendent Rachel Swinney talks further about what a hate crime is, the effects that hate crime can have on individuals and communities, and how to report these crimes. (Translated for British Sign Language (BSL) user accessibility).

Is your property safe?

This week, officers have been visiting various farms across the district to help support and educate farmers on how to protect their property and machinery.

The theft of heavy machinery is a considerable problem and are often from farms, woodland and domestic rural locations as well as building sites.

The thefts range from sit-on mowers and quad bikes up to very large plant and construction machinery.

There's a lot you can do to deter thieves, prevent your property being taken and to get it back safely if it is. Have a read on our website, where you'll find lots of advice on keeping machinery secure and what to do if something is stolen.

Shop Kind

Please, Shop Kind.

On average, 1,300 violent or abusive incidents occur in the retail sector every single day. No one deserves to face this level of abuse - especially when simply doing their job.

Shop Kind aims to unite the retail sector to tackle violence and abuse against shopworkers by asking people to shop kind when in stores.

Sussex Police work with retailers all year round to help combat these issues. We aim to encourage positive behaviour in stores and acknowledge the essential role of shopworkers.
