Following some information sent through to our Op Notify dedicated phone, we were able to successfully locate and seize a vehicle last week.
A report had been made in relation to a vehicle displaying anti-social behaviour in Willingdon. Officers managed to locate the car in question in Eastbourne, where the driver was stopped and the vehicle searched.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested, after being found to have no insurance. The vehicle was also seized under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act.
Good News!
Police see significant decrease in reports of motorcycle thefts.
Since the launch of a dedicated police operation; Operation Portman, to tackle motorcycle thefts in areas of Wealden and Eastbourne, we are pleased to report a decrease of 77% in the number of motorcycle thefts reported.
Chief Inspector Lewis for Eastbourne said: ‘These figures reflect the continued efforts of local teams and communities in both targeting offenders and highlighting offences in the area.
Within the last few weeks 8 arrests have also been made in relation to ‘Op Portman’, along with a number of motorcycles either being located by police or reunited with their owners.
Our investigations, alongside patrols and targeted police actions continue, as does our determination to catch offenders linked to motorcycle thefts.
We would also like to thank communities for their reporting of both crime and suspicious activities, as well as continue to encourage residents to further report any thefts or information around motorcycle thefts online quoting Op Portman’.
Owners of two-wheeled vehicles are also encouraged to visit the Secured By Design website; supported by police, to gain valuable advice and tips to help protect their property from theft.
Op Notify
Last week, officers out on patrol for Op Notify across the south of the district were accompanied by PD Buster 🐶
Cuckoo Trail Patrols
You may have seen us last week up and down the Cuckoo Trail on our own off-road bikes 🏍️
Officers covered the trail from Heathfield to Eastbourne, spending a total of 19 hours patrolling and covering roughly 200 miles along the trail and the immediate area.
We stopped to speak with lots of members of the public, who were all happy with our presence following reports of motorcycle ASB (anti-social behaviour) and theft.
One lady was particularly pleased to see us as her husband had recently had his motorbike stolen, which when recovered had been a right off. It is believed that the thieves used the Cuckoo Trail to get the bike away. Our increased presence will continue across the district. Please continue to report anything to us that we may need to know - as this helps us direct our patrols where demand is needed most!
