PSU Training - Cadet support

PSU training Cadets

A big thank you to our brilliant Wealden Sussex Police Cadets (VCC) for supporting our PSU (Police Support Unit) with their public safety refresher training this week.

The Cadets came along to assist in role-play scenarios, and cause a ‘riot’; giving our Officers as close to real life situations as they could to help support their specialist training.

Your PSU is a specialist unit of Police Officers who have undergone tactical training in both Public Order and Riot Control, and can be deployed to spontaneous or pre-planned public order/public safety events as an additional resource to enable an effective policing response to large scale events.

Thank you again Cadets, we really appreciate your continued support and hard work across the division!

For more information, eligibility criteria and more about our VCC you search ‘Police Cadets’ on our Sussex Police website.

Cash boost for community pantry

Earlier this month your local PCSO's attended Crowborough Community Pantry where they met with some lovely volunteers and were delighted to present the charity with a cheque for £500 from The Police Property Act Fund.

The charity run by volunteers in Crowborough, has the ethos ‘Saving Waste, Feeding Communities’, helping those in need and supporting families locally. You can find out more about the charity and the work the volunteers do on their official Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/people/Crowborough-Community-Pantry/100092258085666/

Made up from money received by the police from property confiscated by order of court and then sold, or from the sale of found property; the main aim of the fund is to support local projects undertaken by voluntary/charitable organisations that benefit the communities of Sussex.

If you manage a voluntary or charitable organisation, or community group within Sussex, you may be able to put in an application for support with funding.

We will consider any applications from voluntary and charitable organisations and community groups within Sussex. (a number of criteria must be met in order for a successful application to be made), more information can be found online here: https://www.sussex.police.uk/police-forces/sussex-police/areas/au/about-us/charity-and-community/police-property-act-fund-ppaf/

Fatal 5 - Seatbelts

May be an image of text that says

Operation Downsway: Let's talk seatbelts...

Did you know wearing a seatbelt can reduce the risk of death in a serious crash by up to 50%?

This year, every weekend between April and September officers from teams across the force have taken part in the dedicated operation, providing a both a visible and unmarked Police presence on the road network in Surrey and Sussex, engaging, educating and taking enforcement action where necessary as part of Operation Downsway.

By engaging with road users we aim to help continue reducing the number of serious accidents, and fatal collisions on our roads.

Find out more about the fatal 5 and what work is being conducted to help keep the roads of Sussex safe for all road users online here: http://spkl.io/61864FGey

Project Stem

On Monday 8th April, officers attended the installation of Polegate's first emergency bleed control cabinet in aid of Polegate Council's latest campaign; Project Stem.

Officers joined with representatives from Eastbourne Area Community First Responders and Polegate Town Council and were interviewed by BBC South East.

The bleed kits complement Sussex Police’s year-round work to combat knife crime and serious violence, known as Operation Safety which has a primary focus on reducing knife crime committed in public spaces against young people.

No medical knowledge is needed to use the kits. Anyone who phones 999 to access the pack will be put through to a professional, who will be able to advise them on what steps to take. There are also simple instructions inside the door for members of the public, until an ambulance arrives.

We'd like to thank the community for all efforts made in regard to fundraising for this life-saving equipment.

Community Speedwatch - We need your help!

Help reduce deaths and injury on the roads of your towns and villages.

Community Speedwatch is looking for volunteers to help join a local Community Scheme in your area.

This is a vital role in helping to reduce anti-social driving and helping to prevent death and injury on our roads, and full training will be given for this voluntary role by Sussex Police.

Community Speedwatch (CSW) is a national initiative where active members of local communities join with the support of the Police to monitor speeds of vehicles using speed detection devices.

Vehicles exceeding the speed limit are referred to the Police with the aim of educating drivers to reduce their speeds.

In cases where education is blatantly ignored and evidence of repeat or excessive offences is collated (even across county borders), enforcement and prosecution can follow.

Find out more, sign up to a local scheme and join online by visiting: www.communityspeedwatch.org today.
