Community resolution for ASB and criminal damage issued 

Following collaborative work, Police have identified individuals responsible for both ASB and criminal damage in areas of Eastbourne.

Together with local schools and local authorities; we have identified those responsible for recent anti-social behaviour (ASB) and criminal damage in the Shinewater area of Eastbourne; this included recent damage to a public bus stop.

Those identified will be dealt with by way of community resolution; by encouraging offenders to face up to the impact of their behaviour and to take responsibility for making good any harm caused, a community resolution can reduce the likelihood of their reoffending.

A reminder to residents that each Friday and Saturday between 1730-2230, residents can call on 07785 372050 to report anti-social behaviour (ASB) directly to teams out in the town centre, community parks and your seafront.

These targeted ASB patrols are in addition to regular patrols throughout the week, all reports help to identify 'hot-spot' areas for additional patrol, please continue to use the contact number provided at weekends, and report ASB at the time it is happening.

Outside of these time, please continue to report ASB online or to 101 - in an emergency/crime in action always call 999.

Patrols this week

Officers from your Eastbourne Policing Teams have spent a number of hours this week conducting hi-visibility patrols under Operation Safety over the last few weeks.

These patrols are directed by the continued work which Sussex Police do to tackle both serious violence and knife crime, and are aimed at not only disrupting criminal activity, but also aimed at identifying those committing and causing serious or violent crimes in your community.

Operation Safety is the Force’s dedicated response to reducing serious violence; both serious violent crime and knife crime can have tragic consequences and can leave a devastating impact on victims, loved ones, and whole communities.

Information around knife crime can be reported anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or Childline on 0800 1111.

In addition to a number of proactive Police patrols in areas of crime, and hotspot areas of anti-social behaviour (ASB); Officers from your local teams have also conducted various community engagement patrols in and around the town centre.

Ensuring those out shopping and braving the weather stayed safe; Officers stationed up along Terminus Road, where they conducted a number of patrols, as well as checking in on local businesses, and offering shelter and advice from the storm in our ‘Police Pod’.

Millions of pounds worth of drugs seized

An Eastbourne man involved in the supply of cocaine estimated to be worth millions of pounds has been jailed for 10.5 years.

The male aged 45, of Selwyn Road, was stopped by police in Colchester, Essex in July 2023.

During a search of his Mercedes Vito van, officers found several individually wrapped packages inside two black holdalls. Suspecting these contained illegal drugs, officers arrested him on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

A further, more detailed search revealed that the holdalls contained a total of 31kg of cocaine made of individual 1kg blocks, sealed in tape and plastic wrapping.

Following an investigation into his activities, officers identified that on another occasion in 2023 he had used the same van to deliver to an address in London.

The total value of cocaine recovered is estimated to be around £3.7million, and he was charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine and possession with intent to supply cocaine.

At Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday 25 October, he was sentenced to 10 years and six months in prison having pleaded guilty to all charges.

Detective Inspector Mark Rosser, of the Sussex Police Specialist Crime team, said: “This man played a significant role in the supply of cocaine, travelling beyond Sussex to commit these offences.  It is the third time he has been convicted for drug supply and thanks to his lengthy prison sentence, his willingness to engage in criminal activity will be disrupted for several years to come.

“This sentence will also serve to disrupt the supply of cocaine within Sussex and further afield. We take the offence of the supply of illegal drugs very seriously and are committed to catching those involved; including those who feel they can travel beyond the scope and reach of Sussex Police.”
